Diamond Quality - The Four C's
Carat Weight
The term
carat weight refers to the universal measure of weight for a diamond. While it
is the easiest of the 4 C's to determine, remember, two diamonds of equal size
can have different values. Larger diamonds are more rare and highly prized, but
they may also vary in value depending on their qualities of color, clarity and

Color
The best color is no color. These stones are
treasured for their rarity and value. Diamonds are graded from totally colorless
to light yellow, starting at D, which is pure white, and continuing through the
alphabet. The differences from one grade to another are very subtle and it takes
a trained eye and years of experience to color grade a
diamond.
Cut
It is the skill of the cutter who brings out the
beauty from a rough diamond. Cutting and polishing is a highly skilled craft,
one that has often been passed down from father to son for generations. A good
cut produces facets whose placement and angles are mathematically accurate to
maximize the diamond’s brilliance.
To take advantage of a diamonds good color and clarity, you need
to have a well-cut diamond.
